Have a cohesive aesthetic to your feed
Having a general theme/feel to your feed will help other users be attracted to your feed. Get familiar with Lightroom and taking photos ONLY when you have natural light. Stick to using the same 1-2 filters on all your images, if you use more, make sure they have the same type of feel/look!
Get comfortable and authentic with Instagram stories
People want to be able to put a face and a voice to the feed they are looking at. Get comfortable sharing bits and pieces of your life in your stories. Be authentic, be real, and raw. Stop editing out all the messy and mundane pieces of your life. People are want to see authenticity Connecting through stories with people will drive them to your feed.
It is called social media for a reason, don’t scroll too quickly. Like the photo and then comment, like a real genuine comment. Engage with others so that they will want to engage with you. Spend 30 minutes a day looking for accounts that are similar and give them feedback on some of their posts.
Geotag and hashtag
Once you post a photo, in the comment section add hashtags that make sense. There are two ways to look at hashtags- the first is if you are simply trying to grow your audience and the second is if you are looking to gain clients. Take a fitness coach as an example, if they want to simply increase their audience they can use whatever hashtags they want including (most likely) a lot of fitness ones. If they are looking to build their client base they need to use hashtags that attract the type of clients they want. If they use all fitness hashtags, chances are they will get a lot of fitness coaches just like themselves and these would not be clients! For example they may be better off using hashtags that refer to postpartum recovery (for mama’s trying to get back in shape).
As for Geotags- this allows you to tag the location when you are out at a new restaurant or downtown in a new city. Geotagging around your own home is a good resource for people to use when traveling close by to you. People searching for something to do in that place, or somewhere to eat, will also be seeing your profile.
Take advantage of alt text.
Alt text is what allows users with vision-impairments to understand what the image or visual is on their screen. However, alt text is also beneficial to marketers. Alt text is also what allows search engines to understand what an image is showing. When you do put in the Alt Text, don’t use label keywords like “picture of…”. Do use your brand name and don’t exceed 125 characters.
