You were made to be their mama.
You were made to wipe away the tears, kiss the bumps and bruises, and wake up for the 10th time during the night.
You were made to give and give and give until you feel like you have nothing left to give.
You were made to be their mama, but oh my, how you were made to be so much more.
Being a mama is incredible, rewarding, and a worthy job, but if you forget about…
You will lose what makes you a great mama.
Your babe needs you to be the best version of yourself every day, so that they can be the best version of themselves. They need to see you dreaming, creating, and reaching for more.
There will be days where you are exhausted. Days where you feel like you can’t build one more block tower or clean up one more pretzel from the floor. Days where the mom guilt is so strong that nothing feels good enough.
Those are the days where you have to have grace with yourself. Know that it’s okay to put on a 3rd episode of Mickey or it’s okay to drop them off at their grandparents for the afternoon so you can read a book or wander the aisles of target alone.
Recognize your feelings. Recognize the mom guilt. Recognize the exhaustion. Recognize the frustration. Recognize and then take action. Our babes learn by doing, they need to see you taking care of yourself, because it does no good to take care of anyone else if you are drowning. Remember on the plane when they tell you to put on your own oxygen mask before placing your child’s on? THIS is a valuable life lesson.
So mama, when you are exhausted, defeated, losing your temper, and feel like a failure, you were made for this role but you were also made for so much MORE. Don’t stop dreaming, creating, and striving.
